Hey Everyone! If you know me at all, you know that I am an extreme dancer. I dance most of the week, in a variety of styles. I find it a very fulfilling workout and even though a lot of people don’t consider it a sport, I think it 100% is. These varieties all go from beginner to advanced.

Ballet- Ballet is the most technical style. It is important to practice with proper technique to avoid injury. There are also different varieties of ballet such as Spanish. Ballet flats, leotards (preferably black), and tights are needed.

Pointe- Point is the ballet where you actually go up on your toes. You must have strong ankles and feet, as you’re holding all your weight on them. Immense experience in ballet is required. You will most likely have to pass a test to go en pointe. Pointe shoes, toe pads/gels, leotards, and tights are needed.

Lyrical- Lyrical is a fluid, graceful style. It is very deep and as the name describe, follows the lyrics in the songs used. Light, movement allowing clothes, and toe thongs (optional, but very helpful) and needed.

Modern- Modern is a style that is a faster, less technical version of lyrical. Great for beginner dancers. Same things needed as lyrical.

Contemporary- Contemporary is a style that mixes lyrical and modern. It is usually for more advanced dancers. Same things needed as lyrical and modern.

Jazz- Jazz is a spunky, fast, and fun dance. It is very popular and good for beginners. Jazz shoes and easy movement clothes are needed.

Hip-Hop- Hip-hop is a fast-paced, loose style. It can come in many forms such as street and pop&lock. What’s needed for a class is determined by the instructor.

Tap- Tap is a style that uses the noises made from tap shoes to go with the beat of music. Tap shoes and movable clothes are needed.

I love dance, it has so many great benefits. If you are considering beginning dance, you can always look on YouTube or go to your local studio’s website to find out more about it! Thanks for letting me share a little bit of my passion with you! QOTD: Which of these seem most interesting to you? AOTD: I love ballet so I would have to say that but I’ve always wanted to do tap!

Hey Everyone! As you can see, today’s post is on things you should know before getting acrylic nails. I got acrylic nails last January, took them off for the summer, and just recently got them redone. I think there are quite a few important things you should know if you are thinking about getting acrylics.

They are a huge time commitment. One fill can take 45 minutes (you get fills every 2 weeks) and if there’s a wait at the nail salon, it could be way longer

They are also a big money commitment. The fills are usually $15  but depending on if you’ve broken any nails or want to get extra designs, they can get pricey fast.

It gets very hard to do a lot of usually normal things. Things such as texting, writing, typing, and many others have to be altered to accommodate your new talons. It also makes playing instruments much more difficult.

They can hurt. During the process of getting them put on, it’s quite possible that while they are drilling down your nail, you could get nicked, and it hurts when that happens. It also hurts if you accidentally hit your nail on something.

When they come off, your natural nails look and feel hideous. Your nails are so thin and fragile. They will most likely ache for a day or two after.

Finally, you become really self-conscious of your nails. You want them to always look pristine and shiny. It gets tiring at some times.

I hope you guys learned something from this post! Even though these point-out’s seem kind of negative, I love my acrylics and I think they were a good investment for me. QOTD: What color are your nails? AOTD: This super-cute shiny purple.

Hey Everyone! As you know, I love fitness, so what better way to kick off #recipewednesday than my top 5 healthy snacks!

Coconut Almond & Peanut Butter Bananas- Take half a large banana and slice it in half lengthwise and top it off with 2 Tbsp. peanut butter, 2 Tbsp. toasted coconut, and 1/4 ounce of roughly chopped almonds.

Frozen Chocolate Covered Fruit- You can dip your own fruit in dark chocolate, or just go out and buy some in the freezer section (Dole has strawberry, banana, and pineapple)

Fruit & Coconut Jello Cup- Grab your favorite sugar-free jello cup and top it with 1 tbsp. toasted coconut and 1/2 cup of your favorite fruit. I like blueberries and raspberries (think foods easily made small). It adds more texture and flavor compared to plain old jello.

California Turkey Rolls- Using a large piece of romaine lettuce, roll a 2oz slice of roasted turkey, 1/2 oz. pepper jack cheese, slices of red pepper, and 1/5 of an avocado. Add a tiny bit of Dijon mustard for a little zing. Mash a tiny bit of avocado and use it to seal the ends of the lettuce together in a neat little roll.

BBQ Chicken & Cheese Bites- Mix 1/4 c. rotisserie chicken meat cubed with 2 Tbsp. of your favorite BBQ sauce and a dash of salt. Top 4 slices of cucumber with half a wedge of Light Garlic & Herb Cheese Spread each and a tablespoon of BBQ chicken mixture. This is also great on whole-grain crackers!

These are all super yummy and fun healthy snacks. Try some of them out and let me know how you like them! QOTD: Do you like coconut? AOTD: Yes! I love it so much!

Hey Everyone! So, for the rest of this month (September 2015) the theme will be… FALL! I know that’s kind of basic, but I thought it would be a good transition into the groove of this blog! Anyways, for the first September theme post I am writing about my fall favorites. This list literally covers everything from makeup to scents, haha. So without further adieu, lets get started!

Makeup- darker brown, wine, mauve, maroon, and purple eye shadows (looks great smokey), same colors in lipstick (darker doesn’t look too great on my lips but some people can really rock it), heavy contours also! Everything gets bolder in fall!

Hair- braids are always a fall trend (of course with flannel!) but spice it up by going with a frenchie or dutch braid. Also dust off your messy bun skills!

Clothes- Bulky scarves are always a staple in fall. Also keep following the colors listed above. Don’t forget your boots too! My absolute FAVORITE boots are from HotCakes, I have 3 pairs and I love them!

Scents- My favorite scents for fall are pumpkin (duh), chocolate/cocoa, roasted marshmallow, warm vanilla, basically anything that promotes that warm and fuzzy feeling of fall.

Other- I usually get a really bad allergy-like thing going on in my throat during fall so I always have a little baggie of cough drops on me

Ahhh I love fall. I probably forgot a few things but these are the must-haves, at least for me:) QOTD: What’s your favorite season? AOTD: Fall obviously!

Hey Everyone!

Today’s random Sunday topic is… Oktoberfest? Yep, the traditional German festival. Now, I am slightly German but not enough to really sport the lederhosen and yodel. Heck, I didn’t even know Oktoberfest existed until we did a lesson on it in German class. If you don’t know what Oktoberfest is, it’s a German beer festival held for about 16 days starting mid-September and ending in October. I am not quite old enough to drink (actually not close at all) but I still wanted to know what it was like. Yesterday, my good friend Julia invited me to her neighborhood’s take on Oktoberfest. I’d gone a few years ago with her, but I was too young to understand the meaning of it all. Yesterday was also extremely rainy. To put it in perspective, it hadn’t rained in 2.5 weeks. We also live in Maryland, which is about a world away from Germany. Anyways, her neighborhood is very tightly woven, everyone knows everyone. Their Oktoberfest is like their yearly block-party, except more alcohol and less suburban-mom. Also, because their fest is not die-hard, it lasts a day opposed to 16 days.  The fest started at about 1 (rain made for a rough takeoff). Food selection was somewhat odd. There were hot dogs, bratwurst, notwurst (vegan). and oysters. I am not sue if oysters are a German thing, but I don’t know 100%. There were also a bunch of homemade side dishes, and of course a LOT of alcohol. There was a live band but they couldn’t perform due to the risk of electrocution, which I completely understand. Otherwise, the place was totally hopping. There was a trampoline we all were abusing (I think there were 8 teenagers on there at one time). Julia also lives right across the street from where it was at so when the rain would start to pick up, we would just chill at her house. At about 8, the rain finally started to clear up. They started up a HUGE bonfire and everyone who was sleeping over set up their tents. The whole day I was rocking super cute rain boots and a cute sweatshirt. We stayed out until about 10 and then went back to the house. The people who were drunk were getting a little bit out of hand. Overall, Oktoberfest was awesome and if you have the opportunity to go, ou totally should! QOTD: Do you like oysters, clams, etc.? AOTD: No!!!

Here’s a few beauty tips that I think EVERYONE should know! Let me know if I should do more!

  1. To make your eyes more naturally alert and wide use black mascara on top lashes and brown on bottom
  2. In order to remove product build-up in your hair, use a clarifying shampoo once a week. This also prevents dandruff and other annoying scalp conditions! (I love Superfruit renewal clarifying shampoo by Ouidad)
  3. Massage an ice cube over your face until it melts. Do every night before bed. Supposedly it keeps fat cells, acne, and wrinkles under control but I just started doing this.
  4. For even curlier lashes, heat your lash curler (hairdryer, etc.) for five to eight seconds before curling them.
  5. Drink water! Even if you keep it to only a cup a day, you will see improvement all around.
  6. Before applying nail polish, wipe your nails clean with a cleanser. This will ensure the polish adheres properly.
  7. Prior to putting on nail polish, cool the container in the fridge, it will help with bubbles!
  8. To make yourself look awake, line your inner rims of the lower eyelid with nude eyeliner apposed to white. (It looks more realistic and less funky)
  9. Use conditioner as shaving cream.
  10. Bought two lip colors and aren’t sure about them? Mix them together, it might just be the perfect shade!
  11. Blue based lip colors will make your teeth look lighter. (This is an example of color contoring, I will make a full post about it soon)
  12. Use baby oil with vitamin E in place of makeup remover. Much less expensive and lasts wayyy longer.
  13. Dryer sheets help calm down the vicious humid-day-frizzies.
  14. Instead of shaking a nail polish bottle before use, roll it between your palms. It will end up going on much smoother.
  15. Instead of drying your hair with a towel (major frizz amp.) wring excess water out in the shower and wrap your hair up in a t-shirt.

That’s It! 15 beauty hacks to always keep in mind. A few of these I have never tried but have been told great things of. QOTD: What color are your nails? AOTD: Mine are periwinkle (I love that word, lol)
